Twins vs. Singleton.

So many girlfriends of mine are getting preggo and while I am so happy for them, sometimes I feel a bit envious.

I will never have that easy breezy first couple of years spending every moment with your baby. I won't ever be able to leave my house with a moby wrap and just cruise around babe in tow. To add to it, I won't always feel like I am doing every thing possible to further my kids growth and development because I don't have that special time. Sometimes I use their swings too much when they are crying, and a lot of times a feel guilty for them maybe not being developmentally where other kids are.

{I am hoping that part of this is just normal mom guilt. Haven't quiet figured it out yet.}

But, what are the pros and cons of twins vs. a singleton?

Cons
  1. When I get pooed on, its double time. Awesome.
  2. The hubs and I are constantly bargaining things to see who gets up or gets the "fussy one"
  3. You are always in a race. Race to finish first eating {this is actually fun} and race to the changing table..{this one isn't fun}
  4. Leaving the house is a chore. No Joke. No matter what, usually one babe is crying inside the house while I am loading the other one in the car.
Pros

  1. When those friends are on baby numero dos, I will have toddlers and hopefully {fingers crossed here} they will be sleeping awesome.
  2. They will always have a play mate. Granted at this point they are just swatting at each other, I am sure that will change.
  3. I get to see my kids grow together. It is the neatest thing to see my two babes grow and change and be together.
  4. I know that they will always have a special bond.. maybe sometimes more than just being a brother and sister.
  5. I don't know any different, and honestly.. I don't think I could imagine anything else at this point.
So here is to the pros always outweighing the cons and to more moments like this...

not this..

Tag.

If my kids are anything like me, this is going to happen.

My family cat Tag hated me. Seriously. I chased her so much as a babe - kid, that she stayed away from me until I was 18. I mean, she was easy to catch.. she was up for San Antonio's fattest cat award.

Weekend Snapshots: The Nursery

I won't bore you guys with photos of what the hubs and I did this weekend. It was literally nothing with maybe a splash of The Rum Diaries, lounging all Saturday, and the hubs working Sunday.
{with the exception of one cute photo}

So, I thought I would share some updated photos of the nursery now that the babes are officially in there.

I still can't believe they are actually in the room that feels like we started planning for so long ago!
I still need to hang their mobiles and hopefully, I can hide their monitor cameras {those ugly little circle things under their shelves} somewhere within them.

Like Pat Green, Three Days.

Happy Friday! I feel like the weekend has flown up on me and I couldn't be more excited about it. Between wearing a sweater maybe three days in a row to forgetting when the last time I showered {I know, trust me} I have had some awkward moments this week and I am excited to relax with the hubs.

Buck Tooth Betty.

that happened. enjoy.

Oh Hey Creep,

I feel like all of this weeks posts have intertwined. We moved the babes into their own nursery! I know, it broke my heart a  little until I walked back into my room and remembered I had a HUGE room! {now, I am in need a great vintage dresser under my TV, score!}

With the nursery came the great debate of what monitor to get? Another twin problem is I need to be able to see both cribs - both babes. After much debate and the consulting of other twin moms, we decided to spend the big bucks and get a monitor we could not regret.

Motorola has just come out with a baby monitor that has two cameras, lullaby's, speakers to talk to the kids, and the ability to zoom and scan the cribs! However, we have had a couple of creepy moments.

For example, my sister - in - law is visiting. She was being ever so awesome and settling a crying babe while the hubs was watching and voiced over the speaker to, "Tuck the wubbanub under the arm".. um, ok weirdo.

Another is the super creep photos you get like such..

And lastly, the hubs spying when I am bending over the crib maybe wearing an inappropriate shirt.
{seems like the hubs is at most of these creepy moments, ha}

Traveling Edition.

Along with the anticipation of visiting great friends and spending time in one of my favorite cities, came a lot of anxiousness and fear about traveling with two three month olds. Heading to Dallas this past weekend though was a good trial run for an extended vacation we are taking in August/September to California.

So, how did everything go?

Well, we left at 11:30 am on Friday about an hour and a half after their morning bottle, with some time until we had to do their 2:00 pm feed. We got on the road with no problems and I moved between the back of the car to the front depending on the kids fussiness. I took a tip from another twin mom who said if you can feed in the car, do so. We pulled over to burp and change and get some food for us, while letting the babes stretch - then we continued on for the final couple of hours.

The hotel we were staying at provided two pack and plays, which was the only thing I think that I did not pack, and it had a separate kitchen and sink area which made bottle making a breeze!

On Saturday though, things got a little bad... the babes missed their long afternoon nap {we were trying to fit in so many people and things, mistake.. take time to nap!} and by dinner time they were a disaster. And by Sunday on the way home, we had to take an extended stop to let them really relax.

All in all, {I may bite my tongue} it was pretty easy... and fun! The babes have even been doing so amazing at night, we moved them into their own room! Eeek!

our set up - couch as changing table - two pack and plays - bottle making sink - and our bed!

Weekend Snapshots.

The hubs and I decided semi last minute to make a trip to Dallas. Between my huge grab list, some amazing friends, and some fussy babes.. it really was an amazing weekend.

I will go into details about the travel and sleeping later, but for now some cute photos!

Happy Friday!

video

Ok guys, we are off. Hopefully we don't get there and realize we left the babes at home.. That is how mushy my brain is about now.

Here is a video that Elise at saltwaterdiary did when we went to the zoo a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoy how the piranha don't look hungry at all, and yes I am racing a bird at the end.

ps. go check out her blog. she is doing an amazing give a way!

Traveling Family.

Pardon yesterdays missing post. We have decided to make a little last minute trip to Dallas this weekend.
Maybe it was all that talk about how the hubs and I met there.. {or maybe it is because a close friend is about to move to denver or another close friend just had a babe}

Anyways, I must be crazy for thinking we can go on a four and a half hour road trip with twins that eat every four hours and our first weekend away. I. Am. Stoked.

Here is just a slight preview of my grab list -

formula
water
diapers
spare sheets
clothing
socks
beenies
bottle washer
soap
pink bin
nipples
bottles
blankets
sheep and lamby
soothies
wet wipes
burpers
stoller
babies
brain

Stay tuned for fun details :)

I mean, I am a PRO at multi-tasking.

Valentine's Day.

With all the romance swirling around, I thought I would share how the hubs and I met. Most of my readers already know this story {my version.. and then the hubs version} but for those who don't, here is what happened..

My Version-

I decided to go to a trade school for fashion when I graduated high school. My sister had moved far away {Arizona} for school, and I wanted to stay in Texas so I just jotted up to Dallas {long story short - my sis ended up moving across the street from me a month after living in Dallas}. On day 3 of moving, my parents were heading back home, but my dad wanted to make sure my car was fully serviced before he left just in case, so I went down to the local shop to get everything checked out while my parents continued to put things away {Yup, I sat and got my car serviced while my parents slaved away}

I was in the store maybe two minutes when the manager walked in and started telling me about how he was born in London and just moved to Texas from California.. how he was a surfer {these lines were clearly winners on Texas girls before}...and how he lived right across the street from his shop. {He also pointed out his car also with Cali plates.. this will be useful later} I thought he was cute, but he didn't ask for my number when my car was ready and the part I am leaving out is that I had moved up to Dallas with my high school boy friend. {whomp whomp}

Speed it up to a month or two later, the said boy friend and I had broken up.. and after my best friend continuously heard me talking about "this guy" she decided we needed to go to his apartment complex, find his car and just leave a note with my number on it. Simple enough.

By noon the next day, he had called and we had a date set.

Now here is where things get confusing.

We only dated for a couple of weeks before

1. I ended up getting back with the ex boy friend
&
2. He ended up choosing another relationship.

I quickly realized my decision was a mistake and after choosing to transfer colleges, move to a small island with the best friend who left my number on his car, and leave multiple messages on the hubs phone.. I figured I had lost out and was moving on.

Until a couple of months later, I was packing up my apartment to move back to my hometown when he called. We spoke briefly and I mentioned I would be up in Dallas in a couple of weeks to visit my sister and we should catch up. Unfortunately, there was a death in the family, however it allowed me to  stay in Dallas for almost a month and spend time together.

For almost the next year we continued to do long distance until he made the move down south!

So, babe.. one last thing.

Hubs Version-

In 2003 I moved from California to Dallas, Texas to help my friend open up some oil change franchises.  The plan was to open up five shops in five years, make a ton of money and move back to California with pockets full of cash. By 2004 the plan was in full effect with eyes on our second shop.

Then, one day,  an of employee of mine said that the next car was his because the girl driving it was hot. Being the great manager I was, I explained to him that you can’t pick and choose cars based on hotness and to teach him a lesson I would handle that customer. Well, he was right and she was hot, but also looked like she was 16. At the time I was 23 about to turn 24 and did not need to risk asking for a 16 year olds number.

So instead I did what every other man would of done... I flirted as much as possible while trying to figure out her age. Well, her car got finished in record time and I still had no idea how old she was, so I didn’t ask for her number.  "Oh well she will be back in three months hopefully and maybe I can figure it out then".

About two weeks later my roommate went down to my truck in the morning to get ready to go to work and came running back into our apartment.

“Hey dude, some chick left her number on your car”.

 My first response was “bullshit”, so he handed me the piece of paper. It had a phone number and said “the girl with the lexus”.  My two roommates also worked with me so we all sat down thinking who was “the girl with the lexus” and where did I meet her. We decided the best course of action was to wait two days and then call the number. Thirty minutes later I decided the best thing to do was call the number and figure out who this girl was.  Turns out it was the hot girl in the lexus who looked 16.  After dating a little bit, taking a break for a year, reuniting and falling in love. I am happy to say that 8 years later I have a beautiful wife with two beautiful kids,  & still live in Texas.

PS. She was 18 when we met ☺!!

Weekend Snapshots.

In true Texas fashion, the weather turned from beautiful high 60's - low 70's to freezing temperatures and even sleet and snow {up north} this weekend..  so, we stayed in and relaxed Saturday night. I am pretty sure my babes are going through their three month growth spurt {mainly Nixon} so we have been busy keeping him comfy.

I think the hubs was spoiling me early for Valentine's Day because he not only baby sat friday night for me to go to girls night, but he even woke up and watched Breaking Dawn with me Saturday morning. pretty amazing. Even though the entire time Nixon and him were doing wolf noises - you know, team Jacob.

{stop trying to eat J}

{Nixon only fell asleep if it looked like his head was about to fall off. If he looked
comfortable, he wasn't}

{J's first giggle}

Momma's Routine.

1. MAC concealer with yellow undertone
2. Aveeno Every day moisturizer with tint and SPF 30
3. Stila cream blush {and lip stain on a really fast day}
4. Burt's Bees tinted Lip Balm in Hibiscus
5. Cover Girl Lash Blast

Yup, that is pretty much what is in this momma's make-up bag and it takes me about
 4 minutes flat to apply. Hope you find a reason this weekend to put on some BRIGHT lipstick!

12 Weeks!

Ok, I am new to this mommy thing.. How does everyone count. weeks or months?
So far, I have been counting by weeks.

Anyways, the babes have changed/ grown so much it is so hard to believe. I don't have stats or how much they weigh because

1. we don't go back to the pedi until 4 months
and
2. a bug crawled into our scale at one of our night feeds and I just insisted the hubs throw the entire thing out instead of taking the chance of the thing crawling back out when I would be in the bathroom solo.

Josephine-
- you are so strong. you are now holding your head up all by yourself!
- with all your smiles, I have even gotten some giggles out of you.
- your grunting has become a bit worse but it is still too cute.
- your double {triple, shh} chin can slowly collect its own bottle of milk if I am not careful.
- your tongue is out constantly. I almost feel bad that maybe I shouldn't have taught my friends babe to stick her tongue out. {karma is a..}
- your eyes still like to look at different things occasionally. It is a problem we are working on.
- you are such a ham. you love to talk and entertain everyone.

Nixon-
- your seriousness is finally having some breaks with some good coos and smiles.
-  you have moved from t-rex to werewolf. way to go bud.
- lady killer. I mean really, with your red hair.. I can't pull the ladies off of you.
- blue eyes have finally peeked through!
- head is still a bit wobbly but we are getting there..
- your are in a serious battle between your wubbanub and your thumb. honestly, I am hoping neither win.
- we have learned fairly quickly you now love sleeping on your tummy. {good thing I just bought you some new swaddlers}

Besties?

Well, me and chicken have just turned our relationship around.
I mean.. I may even say I enjoy cooking/eating chicken now.

I made slow cooker cream cheese chicken chili. And, it was amazing. Literally I could not stop eating and I even told the hubs he better get used to his wife making ah-mazing meals now.

The only thing you need that isn't pictured is of course chicken, and cream cheese. I used low fat cream cheese to help some what on the calories.

Yum!

2.07.2012

Interview.

I recently got asked to do a little interview about being a momma to twins!
The babes are pretty excited about it, so go check it out!
